Does a 96 Civic STOCK Radio Have Or Use A Theift Code???
My wifes 96 EX's radio sucks! The volume control **** is nutz! So I bought another factoryone off eCrud, and wondering before the install, do Plain FACTORY Civic AM/FM radio's have or use a theift code? And if so, how do I get the new radio's code? I don't want to install it twice?
THANKS!
THANKS!
Does it have a CD player? I know that my stock head unit, and most others I've encountered have had Theft Codes, and you need to get that code from whoever you got the stereo from. If they don't have it, you're pretty much SOL.
^exactly. The person who had the radio needs the code to give to you. If they dont have it get them to call into the honda dealer, they will ask there name, address, vin, and all that good stuff. And if it matches to the owner, they will give the code to them. But really..I say just go aftermarket.
I did this on my grampa's car, his battery went dead and he didnt have the code so I called the Honda dealership and got it within 10min.

on my 98DX i've never had, nor needed to enter a code for the radio, even after disconnecting batteries, and removing/moving radio etc.
i think it depends on if the car has keyless entry and/or power locks though

I called one local Honda dealer and they were total A Holes! They could care less! Called another local HONDA Dealer and the service guy was GREAT! He looked it up and said he couldn't find the serial number in thier data base, but I could bring the NEW (used) Radio in and he'd try. I took it to him and he even called HONDA for me. Well these radio's don't have or use a security code. So I'm good to go! This is a early model with the seperate CD in the console behind the drink holder. He said if it dosen't have a built in CD or have a flashing security light, they don't need or use a lock code!
So THANKS Guys For The HELP and Input!

Have to agree with going aftermarket, Not to diss honda's electrical systems, but their radios and speakers blow. They obviously didn't create these cars to Jam down the highway. Our new CR-V barely has anyvolume on the head unit and the speakers distort after you get a little bass in your jams, paper cones FTL.
