Does the engine need to be running in order to get any useful information from an OBD?

The engine does not have to run for a scanner to pull Diagnostic Trouble Codes and Inspection/Maintenance Monitors. Turn the ignition key to the ON position.
If you don't have a current check engine light then there may not be a code to display (although there could be a pending code). Have you read a basic article on troubleshooting a car that won't start? Troubleshooting a Car That Won't Start - For Dummies (ignore the website name) |
Thanx, that's what I was hoping.
