Default Dreaded P0420

New to the boards. I'm an accord guy myself, but a friend of mine has the P0420 code on her '97 Civic LX.. I'm curious as to whether there's any way to test whether this is the cat or the o2 sensor after the cat, figured I might find some tips from members around here.. so.. much appreciated

Take it to autozone and they'll read the code and tell you which sensor is causing the problem

The autozone print out said P0420 bank 1.. is that going to be the sensor nearest to the exhaust header?

If you cannot find an exhaust leak upstream of the secondary O2 sensor, then the cat is bad. To verify a bad cat, remove and inspect:
