Default Driver side auto door lock won't work

I have a new (to me) 95 Civic EX. Power windows and door locks. The driver side door lock will not work by using the power lock. You have to manually lock it with the key.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is this an easy fix? I did a search, but didn't come up with anything relevant. Is it hard to take the door apart? Will I be able to 'see' what is not working if I take it apart?

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The door panel is easy to take off, just a couple of screws, and then rip out he moisture shield (if it is still there). I (briefly) had a '93 civic with some door/lock problems. I don't remember if the car had power locks, but I DO remember that it would not let you lock the door with the door open. So keep that in mind when you are working in there.

It would appear that I am stupid, and that it is some sort of safety feature. I can lock the doors fine when both are shut, but if the drivers door is open it won't lock. I'm assuming its so you won't lock your keys in the car.

So... nevermind.

yes by pulling the door handle it disengages the bolt that keeps the lock from well... locking. and then you can slose the door and walk away. just remember to keep the keys in your hand

I used to have the same problem until I pulled out the door handle to use the auto lock on the drivers side, then I locked my keys in the car... twice. Luckily, my dad has an auto lockout kit that he had from working as a cop so he could open it for me. Otherwise, I would have been out of about 80.00!
