Default DTC P1298

Hey, the service light came on in my wife's 01 civic. I got a trouble code reader online and the code that came back was P1298 "Electrical load detector circuit high input." I just want to know what this means. What do I need to do to fix the problem? Any help is appreciated.

My understanding is that the ELD is an energy saving device that essentially turns off the alternator when electrical load is low.

Unfortunately, the trouble code does not in and of itself identify the faulty component. Possibilities include a defective ELD unit or faulty ELD circuitry, or even a bad ECU or fuse box. The picture here and the one in the next post tell you how to troubleshoot the problem if you have the electrical know-how.

Edit: By the way, one quick item to test is whether fuse #4 in the under-dash fuse/relay box is blown.
