Ecu and v-tec help

i have a 98 ex with a d16y5 and the y8 computer so my v-tec does not kick in until 5800 rpms. if i put the correct ecu in the v-tec should kick in sooner, but i dont know which car i need to get the computer from, can anyone tell me.

RE: Ecu and v-tec help

HERE is some random info on the ECU, did you swap the y5 into there? Are you sure it's y5 and not y8? The d16y5 is VTEC-E btw, not just VTEC.

RE: Ecu and v-tec help

yeh i swaped the y5 into it because the y8 was toast.

will just a plane civic hx computer work. http://hondaswap.com/reference-mater...cu-list-29129/Onthis page it says that the hx is not vtec is this because it is vtec-e

RE: Ecu and v-tec help

yeah i imagine thats why it says no. Every HX has VTEC-E, so it's not like theres a different model with no VTEC at all, i say just get a P2N ECU and you should be okay (get the right kinda tranny though).

RE: Ecu and v-tec help

i am using the y8 manual tranny. will it make a diffirence with the hx ecu. and does it matter if the ecu is auto or manual

RE: Ecu and v-tec help

yes it matters if you get an automatic ECU for a manual car and vise versa (it doesn't work).
