Default Engine cuts out, after replacing distributor

1994 civic ex 1.6 vtec, automatic...

last week I let my roommate borrow it, she took it to work and when she came back out it wouldn't start... after a bit of research it appeared to be the distributor... So I replaced it, along with the cap and the rotor, and it started up... But now after several minutes of driving the engine will cut out... usually as I leave a stop... Does this sound like something that would happen if I messed up the timing? Which I'm almost certain I did...

check engine light? no it does not come on... it may come on right after it stalls but is off once i restart it... I'm thinking maybe my main relay could be bad as well? I don't know very much about cars... trying to learn though

well pull the main fuel relay and open it and resolder it then put it back in, its a very simple process, and is common.

so this sounds like a symptom that would occur if the relay were bad then?

just look very very very good at the soldering points for hair line cracks, if in doubt just solder it a little.

ok I will resolder it when i get a chance to go pick up some solder... Though, even after it stalls I can hear the relay click on, fuel pump whirl, and relay click off... And why would it only occur after the car has warmed up? When I first start it, it has been idling around 2k and then after driving for a bit it idles sometimes at 1k and sometimes really low... Today I let it sit idling for 5 to 10 minutes and it stalled. Then would not start. However when I tried again later it started up. Could improper timing cause this problem? or is there anything else I should look for? thanks!

okay, I will try that... now that you mention air, I was checking the air filter today (which was for the most part clean) and noticed one of the screws is stripped and not really doing anything... could this be causing a problematic air flow ? sorry if my questions seem dumb, I really have limited knowledge about vehicles but I'm trying get an understanding of their systems...
