Default engine noise 05 civic

over the last couple months the engine noise on my 2005 civic has gotten increasingly loud. there's no rattling, clanking, or squealing, just a steady/loud roar. it starts getting really loud once it gets up to 40mph; doesn't seem to be much (if any) loss in acceleration. tried looking on google for where i should start searching for the problem, but the possibilities are all vague and range from exhaust to water pump, fuel filter, the list goes on and on. any suggestions on what to check and how to check it would be much appreciated!!

Default

Most likely the exhaust. Idle the engine and then block the tailpipe. Pressure should build up quietly. If you hear a hissing noise under the car, there is a hole in the exhaust.
