Can anyone tell me why my engine is making this noise and what needs to be fixed?
Here is a video: IMG_0267.MOV - YouTube

Sounds like a bad ball bearing. If it's coming from the left side of the engine where the belts are, take all the belts off and start the engine see if it is still there. If the noise goes away it's one of the belt-driven parts, you should be able to tell by spinning the pulleys by hand. If it doesn't go away it's the water pump or the timing belt tensioner, those are under the plastic cover on the side of the engine.

thanks for the response. I just got my left front wheel bearing replaced and the mechanic said i need the rear replaced. is that the same thing as a ball bearing?
