Engine replacement advice.
Hi there. Just a quick Tech question.
I have a 1998 Civic EX 5sp Non V-tech. That I use as a commuter car. I recently broke a timing belt and destroyed the head/pistons. I have a line on a replacement motor out of a 1996 Civic. Non V-tech motor, under 100k for a good price.($199.00)
Are these motors interchangeable, just as long as I switch the wire harness to the new motor right? I will be using my stock intake/exhaust manifold, and accessories (alt,p/s pump) ????? Or am I going to run into problems?
Thank you.
Kevin

you may want to check with your local emissions inspections/regulations offiicials first.
some states or municipalities frown upon installing an older model year engines. if they do prohibit it, look for a same model year or newer comparible engine -- even if you have to pay a little more.

I am not sure what it came off of.. The little research I have done seems to lead me to believe that all of the "base engine" of all 1.6litre motors from 1996-2000are the same. Is this correct?

you're in canada?
checking engine codes should be easiest, dead motor should be D16Y7, new engine should be D16Y7, then it's simply a swap of motor, ECU should work, transmission should be the same... everything should bolt right up/hook right up
