Default engine rpm redline

Does anyone know what the redline is for a 1997 honda civic dx coupe. It's a 1.6 liter with a 5 speed manual. Thanks in advance for the help guys.

I have a 97 EX sedan (D16Y7 motor) and redline is 7500, which is also exactly where the rev-limiter comes in (I tried it twice to "find" it, and avoid revving that high anymore)

I have been wondering, what are the dangers of reving that high? Can you mess anything up?

well im not sure about revving that high, but my cousin was racing his gts, and he went from redlining 4th, to third i think...or someone he misshifted, his car shut off, and his motor was blown...i think his pistons snapped or something, i wasnt into cars then so i didnt really check it out

Actually you have a D16Y8. EX's have the Y8. So if yours is really an EX it has a Y8. Anyway your redline should be around 6200-6800. Why do you need to know? Dont you have a tach?

Too much heat buildup. You can prolly snap a rod. Going above redline is suicide for a production motor.

So if you stay around say 6k on a well kept d16y8 it should be o.k.? I havent really taken mine over about 4k yet, I am very worried about breaking something. However, I did tell Forty that I would post up another vid of her "screaming". So I just want to make sure that I am not in danger of blowing anything up. LOL

Someone told me once that the redline was set not to protect the engine, but the other components attached to it. Any truth to that?
