Default Engine sounds like a machine gun

Curious if anyone has seen this before. I will know more within this next week when I can get time to look the car over more closely. Car is my 1.6L 90 Honda HB Si 5 speed. Anytime I accelerate the car stumbles and makes a noise like a machine gun. This happens through any gear, and even in neutral under no load. I know for a fact the bearing in the distributor is going bad so maybe its something as a result of that.

Thanks for your input.

Sorry, no camera. I once found a reputable Honda parts place that was selling distributors new for around $100. I didn't bookmark that webpage and now I cannot find it again... Anyone aware of the site I am refering too, or a site that has distributors for roughly 100?

Well, I replaced the distributor (because the bearing or bushing was going out) and that didn't fix my engine machine gun issue. I have checked fuel pressure and it was very good, resistance in plug wires were good. Plugs are good. I am now currently checking the TPS and am going to check resistance and sweep to see if all is well, but I tried a quick unplug of the sensor and started it up, and whether its plugged in or not it runs the same..... what should the engine do without the tps hooked up?

If you unhook the TPS, it'll run like crap for a little then throw a CEL, then the computer will use some default settings to make it work.

Timing way off will cause terrible knocking.

Take the accessory belts off and run the engine to confirm that the noise really is from inside. If it still sounds like it's from the belt end of the engine it could be the water pump or timing belt tensioner. Have you adjusted the valves?

after I confirm its not the tps I will check timing. It is not just a noise, the engine actually cuts out when it happens. My apologies for not being very clear.
