Default Equus Tach reading correctly? 2000 civic cx hatch

Hi guys,

I just had installed an Equus tach on my 2000 civic cx at a reputable place. The car Is almost entirely stock besides the short ram which I put a few weeks ago. Im not to sure if the tach is reading correctly tho. When idling it reads fine (about 800) but when i accelerate hard off the line im getting only a maximum 4200 reading on the tach. When im cruising at highway speeds I get an accurate reading im presuming which is about 2800 at 120 km/h. I know the car doesnt have alot of power but I should be able to get it up to 5000 atleast going hard off the line. The engine gets very loud but it feels like the tach is not responding. Any help would be appreciated.

2000 civic cx hatch, 5spd, 200km. short ram intake.

Oh I forgot to add, I also read the instructions and set the tach correctly for a 4 cyclinder engine.

It's probably reading correctly. If you're saying the engine sound changes like its going faster but the tach needle doesn't go any higher, something is wrong with the tach.

Since it's not VTEC there isn't much point in revving very high anyway. You should be able to reach 6000 staying in a low gear (not that you should do that while driving, I think peak hp is around 5500). If the check engine light is on for any reason, a lower rev limit will be in effect.

Hi mk,

The tach responds as in if i go higher it will continue to creep up. I believe you are correct since it is not VTEC it will not rev high with ease. The check engine light is on, what is a lower rev limit? thx

a rev limit is when the computer wont let you rev any higher. ( the needle will just bounce off that limit back and fourth)

This is your problem. Pull the CEL codes from the ECU.
