EXHAUST MANIFOLD

HI I have a 1999 honda civic coupe VTi, its lost its power from 5500 an makes a rattling sound as the vtec kicks in with no normal vtec kick. Would this be a crack in the exhaust manifold or what? I just cant figure it out need some help......................
