Default Factory Radio/CD Mount Question

I just purchased my 2000 Civic SE used from a dealer auction and later on I noticed that the Honda radio and the storage tray underneath were just jammed into the big rectangular hole. When I pulled them out, there are no brackets inside to mount the factory radio - they were just stuck in the hole loose like that. It was obvious that the previous owner had some sort of aftermarket stuff in there because the wiring harness was butchered and then rebutchered to connect back to the factory deck.

When I look inside there are no apparent mounting points that I could see where even the factory brackets used to be. I've looked up diagrams and there seems to be a LH & RH bracket that mounts to the radio but what that brackets mounts to, I can't figure out... I even went to the Honda dealership and had them print me off a parts listing but even that was confusing. They would be happy to order me numerous overly expensive brackets screws etc. but even the dealer couldn't describe how it went together or what exactly I would need...

I just want basic radio & CD - nothing fancy and I like the stock look however I don't know what parts are missing from inside the dash to mount the factory player. Anyone have any better diagrams or pictures of what is supposed to be in there??

Any help would be appreciated.

The brakets are in there, they're built into the whole heater center console. Here's what you'll need to do:

1) Remove panel below steering wheel, three screws and pull.
2) Remove the panel with the power outlet in it, six screws, two are in the glovebox area. Unplug the power outlet and jimmy it out.
3) There's four phillips head screws up behind where the outlet is that hold the center consol in, take them out and pull on the center console. Unplug the three wire harnesses plus the one on the stereo if you haven't already. It'll come all the way out now.

Now that it's out, stick the stereo in there how it should be and there should be four screws that go through that metal piece on the side into the stereo. You might have to go to honda and get those screws but after that, put it all back together and you're set.

Oh, the storage pocket attaches to the factory stereo with two little bracket things, you can pick those up from honda too. Or, get the lower storage pocket from a 96-98 civic and stick it in there and it'll also screw up to that metal side bracket.

Thanks for the instructions amg6975. I think I still have to get some bracketry from Honda though... Here is a pic of the opening. Perhaps you can better see what is missing?

As for taking it back to the dealer, I can't because it was bought at a dealer auction "as-is" so I took my chances and well, the rest is history...

Well I ordered up a couple of brackets from the Honda dealership and they look like they might solve my problem. I will give it a shot tomorrow. Here's hoping...

That's OK the job is done now and the radio is rock solid. The hardest part was getting the darn trim bezel off the dash. Now don't ask me about the intermittent wiring connector faults in the factory wiring harness under the dash that interfered with the operation of the radio. Well maybe you could hear the cursing from where you live... The connector that connects the body wiring harness with the dash harness was flukey. Got that fixed too after an hour of cutting and resoldering all the wiring to bypass the harness connector. Someone in Mexico or China or wherever that style of harness connector is manufactured needs a serious *** kicking...
