take out the hose of the fuel regulator with the engine running and check if have gas. if don`t have gas in the hose the fuel regulator it`s ok. I think that is the easy way.

You need to hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel filter and then measure the pressure with and without the vacuum hose of the fuel pressure regulator connected. Be sure to pinch the end of the vacuum hose after disconnecting it.

Though if you have gas coming out of the little port for the vacuum hose, the regulator is bad.

Normally, gas comes out the larger bottom port and goes to the hose to the firewall, which returns it to the gas tank. You can check for this by disconnecting the hose and pointing it into a container. Turn the key on so the pump primes, gas should come out. Do not start the engine like that or you will have a lot of gas to deal with.
