Default Gas

Alright, so i've been noticing whenever i fill up my '98 civic, i only get like 7 to 8 gallons in, the guage says almost empty, like 16th of a tank or so but don't we have a 13 gal. cell, i ususually get like 30 to 32 MPG, so that equates to about 230 miles on the trip meter, when if i have a 13 gal. tank with this kind of mileage, i should be getting upwards of 350, is my gauge off or what should I do, don't want to be left sitting! thanks

I have the same problem with my 96 EX coupe.

If someone knows what's going on, please let us know.

Thanks!

In my 98 DX empty usually needs about 9-10 gallons, although I don't let it get that low normally.

That's all I can add, sorry.

You should only have a 10 gallon tank in there as far as I know. The reason it doesnt take a full ten gallons to bring it from empty to full, is because the gas gauge reads lower than what's actually there. It's kind of a dummy feature for people who refuse to pay attention to their gas gauge until they are stalled on the side of the road.

I believe the manual says 11.9 gallons for a 98, EX Coupe anyways.

yeah, because honda's are oil injected, they have a big reserve tank on them... the needle will go well below the E, its not good to run them out of gas, besides all the stuff off the bottom of the tank you will suck up... kinda like diesel engines... not good to run them out of gas...

Common problem with those cars, the gauge is way off once it drops to "E". steaksauce is correct, the tank is 11.9 gallons, not 10 or 13.
