harmonic ballancer
I am not 100% sure, but all the Harmonic balancer bolts I have removed have been of conventional thread. Clockwise to tighten, CCW to loosen. Does your car have a harmonic balancer, or is it just the main pulley? Anyway I am in the same situation. I am doing the timin chain and need to take it off. The only way I can think of is with a strap wrench(the chain kind) and an impact tool or breaker bar.
I just replaced my 94 civic's timing belt. First of all it is not easy to loosen. many times you will brake the crank bolt!! Anyway, what I did was a placed an extention bar (6") in one of the wholes turned the pulley until it was catching under the oil pan, and used an impact gun. You will need to hit it for a while. I had you use a braker bar with and extebtion bar ( broke the extention bar) but was able to use the impact after that to lossen it. You need to be careful not to force the bar too much and damage the pulley, remember that you have another bar in one of the whole keeping the pulley from turning. good luck let me know if that works for you.
