Have to Hard Shift to Reverse
I have a 94 Civic EX, 1.6L VTEC, SOHC, etc etc. About 4 or 5 years ago I had to have the clutch replaced because I was a noob on standards, was going too fast, tried to downshift to slow down, and instead of hitting 4th from 5th, I hit 2nd, therefore all I heard was the engine rev as high as it could, then POP!. My dad had the clutch replaced by a "guy he knew to be good with foreign cars". A licensed mechanic, but I was doubtful. After my clutch was replaced, and for the last 4 or 5 years, 99% of the time I shift to reverse (to say, back from a parking spot), I have the clutch completely depressed and I still have to, well pretty much, SLAM it into gear. What could be the problem here?
I have done some more searching and came up with the possibility of bad synchros. Could the "mechanic" have done anything wrong that could cause it to shift OK but not perfect? Timing off? I have no idea. Help!
Reverse doesn't have synchros (as far as I know). I have the same car, and same problem, as does everyone. All you have to do is put it in 1st before you go into reverse. Problem solved. Lemme know how it works out.
yea i have the same problem only sometimes though. i thought it was made like that so you couldnt swtich from like 5th to reverse on accident like if you were trying to downshift so i didnt think it was a big deal.
Hi dud i had the same problem as you. I solved it, the issue is with the cilinder under your clutch pedal, i dont know what exacly my mechanic did but he just tightened a nut under the clutch pedal, the pedal went away upwards and solved the problem
^^^^^ dont know about that idea but every standard has trouble going into reverse, sometimes the transmission isnt sitting right to go into 1st so just put it into first and then go back to reverse, it works everytime, but deff dont force it, thats bad.
well on my civic, when first started i needed to let off the clutch, otherwise it was reluctant to go into any gear. but just let it out and push it in and it was fine. and the first to reverse helps
