$1000 to get to 15 seconds flat in the 1/4 mile. Can it be done? We shall soon see, but I am gonna need your help.

It's a '94 EX. I have an off-brand CAI and muffler and that's it. I bought a G-Tech Pro to help me with my project and fooling around today on my way in to work I ran a real-world, worst-case scenario with a full tank of gas and all of my stereo (about 100lbs) and got 16.99 sec @ 85.3 mph. I know, it's almost laughable, but we all have to start somewhere.

Obviously with only $1000 I wouldn't last five minutes on Skunk2.com so I am going to have to get creative. This is my daily driver so the amenities stay and Nitrous is out of the question.

Please don't tell me to buy a $333 IM, a $333 header, and a $333 cat-back.

I shall now open the floor to people who know more than me.

thats going to be damn hard to do. i ran a 15.4 (with some tractin problems due to too heavy of a clutch) with a B16 in my 95 dx. first things first, take out your seats and carpet, and start scraping the tar sound deadener out. that will lose a bit of weight. then you can stick all of your interior back in, and youll hardly notice the deadener being gone. now, if nitrous is out of the question, then you need to start thinking "homemade turbo." a homemade turbo kit, pieced together from Ebay, or maybe a used Greddy kit if you are lucky, is about your only hope. and if you dont have a good set of tires, then youll need some. though that wont fit into your budget with a turbo kit. also, check out homemadeturbo.com for some good advice, and some mediocre advice. good luck, youve got a tall order in front of you.

Im gonna say it cant be done without NAWWWWZZZZZ

Dont be afraid of nitrous. I have been running it for years with absolutly no problems. Of coarse I can handle myself and dont go throwing huge jets in there. In my Si I never went above 50 shot and ran a 40 99% of the time. Learn about nitrous and be careful (especilly if guys on crotch rockets with uzis are around) and it can be your new best friend. Not to mention how friendly NOS is for a daily driver.

If NOS is totally out of the question then Im gonna say IM, strip all interior including stereo, slicks, a header, and a thinner head gasket. the 1k is not including labor I hope. Even with this its gonna take a prayer. I hope you have some friends in high places.

i wish i could find it, but i read an article online somewhere where some guys got a stock 4-door honda (don't remember if it was a civic or accord or what) to run low 13's stock with only an extra spare tire and a sawzall.

but if unless you want a daily driver with no body panels, no windows, no seats other than the driver, and most of the frame missing this might not be the way to go. (btw, they ran with the spare tires on the back of the car instead of the regular ones, in case you wondered why they needed an extra)

some other advice i can give is make friends with as many civic owners and people who work in car stereo and tuning shops as you can. sooner or later, someone is going to buy some nice chrome 18"s and have their old 17" racing rims and meat up for sale, or someone wants to put their car back to stock for a trade-in so they part out all of their aftermarket stuff for a little extra cash.

Is it even possible to light a NOS canister on fire? If im not mistaken, the Nitrogen and Oxygen don't seperate until it is heated to like 500 degrees. Nitrous Oxide isn't flammable in N2O form (as far as i remember)

its not flamable... but if you break it and break your gas tank... and have sumthin to light it, it would be a good explosion.

Yeah, I am definetely in the "used" parts market, and as such my build will probably take a little more time than I had hoped since you just dont run across deals everyday. I have been looking a lot at HomeMadeTurbo and shopping around and it seems like I could do it under budget. The only problem is that I have never put a turbo in and I know that it is more entailed than it looks in those tech articles and I would get stuck halfway through and/or tear up my engine.

I got 15 sec. because I am targeting Mustang Gt's. I was lookng at their power to weight ratios (of the older models) and they are @ about 1hp to 15.5 lbs. Whereas the EX is about 1hp to 18.5lbs (roughly). Doing the math, all I would need is 150hp (another 25) to get to 15.5/1. Obviously there are other variables involved in 1/4 miles times but 25 real world HP seems reasonable with 1000 bucks, dont you think?

If I could just bore my z6 IM out and get a gsr TB would that be more efficient than upgrading to a y8 IM/TB?
