Heat shield or cold air intake?
I'm in the market to switch out the stock intake on my '04 Civic and although I had originally intended to get a cold air intake my roommate said something the other day that made me reconsider. He drives a '99 M3 and he showed me the intake he was getting. It basically looked like a short ram with a heat shield around it. When I looked around I noticed this was not uncommon. I have access to a full shop and wielding equipment. Should I just buy the cold air intake or should I pick up a short ram and just build a heat shield for it? I live in central california so since rain isn't a huge problem I'm thinking I might still go with a normal cold air intake rather than go through the trouble of building a heat shield into my engine bay.
i have a heat shield around my short ram just to keep it away from my radiator hoses n everything else by my block. I say go CAI though, you wont see big power gains either way.
Go with a short ram intake and you don't need a heatshield. Also, Short rams are cheaper and besides you can hardly notice or non at all the difference between a cold air intake.
oh, short rams make a cool throle sound[8D]
