Default heater core replacement

Hello I have a 95 honda civic lx 1500 16 valve. The heater core is leaking after I replaced the hoses. So I think I need to replace the core. I have the new core but dont know how to get at the old core. I hope I dont have to remove the whole dash!!! Could loose hoses cause this? I checked them and they dont seem to be loose.. Anyone know what steps are involved in replacing one? I did a search

Are you able to localize the leak?

This picture and the one in the next post should be helpful. Unfortunately, you will need to remove the dashboard and some other components.

I have always pulled the evaparator box to do a heatercore, so you will needan AC machine also, not to bad to do. I wouldrather do one on a civic than anewer fordanyday

if you just replaced the hoses I ASUME that the hoses just dont fit perfectly.......

mine was the same way! the new hoses didnt fit snug... i just used 2 SCREW on clamps instead of those lame spring clamps....
i had alittle leak and just tightened it down alitle more and it stoped leaking...

but if your leaking preaty good then i would say pull the hoses off clean them off and silicone around the heatercore pipes and then reinstal the hoses... let the silicone dry for awhile then fill it up...... all the hoses i bought from autopart store where a bit to big... i think honda has thier own hose sizes slightly smaller... but i wasnt about to pay the price for them.LOL

Addiction2bass makes an excellent point -- focus on likely leaks from the newly replaced hoses.

well I know it has antifreeze on the passenger side floor. I could check for leaks again but if the hoses were leaking wouldnt that leak outside the car only?........I did put my finger underneath both hoses and didnt feel anything but dont know if I checked good enough. Do I really have to take out the whole dash? Just how hard is this? Guess I will have to pay to have someone recharge the dam ac, oh well. I still havnt a clue how to remove the instrument panel. book isnt clear at all.

You make a good point that a hose leak might only produce coolant outside the car and, given that coolant circulates through the heater core inside the car, a leak in this unit could explain coolant on the passenger side floor. Still, it might be wise to take Addiction2bass' suggestion and replace the clamps because it is so simple to try this potentially easy fix.

Also, if you don't have the 92-95 Civic service manual, then you can download it from the link below. It will detail how to remove the dash and other necessary components. Only remove the evaporator if absolutely necessary.
