Default Help! 98 civic 1.9L shuts off at light.

I have a 98 civic 1.9 auto that shuts off at the stop light but cranks back up find. It only does this in the morning on the way to work. It will run fine untill it shuts off and then runs fine afterward. No lights are on in the dash. The car is consistant, it does it every day once. Ive tried to make it do it other times like on the way home or at lunch and it wont. The only work i have had done is replacing the timing belt. the car is also stock w/ 120k mi on it. I was think cam or crank sensor but i'm nit very fimiliar with hondas. Any help would be great!

Coolant temp sensor??

car thinks it's warm in the mornings, and runs lean, and will stall or idle rough when cold, but will run and idle fine when truly warm.

that can mean a lot of things. this happened on my friends car and it ended up being the alternator...not saying thats what it is..but its possible.

Did your freinds car have any charging problems b/c my batt stays charged and will crank back up fine. The batt light does come on when it shuts off but it should b/c the key is on and the car is not running. If it where a coolant temp sensor going out would the gauge move b/c mine still moves like normal. Do these car have idle sensors like ford or chevy on the TB?

there is an idle air control valve; but i'm speaking in reference to my 1988.
don't know if there is one on a 98.
but your idle to OK (is that correct?)

The idle is ok it does seem a little low at times. I'm going to replace the normal things like plugs, wires and cap, plus inj cleaner b/c it's due for them anyway. If there is a idle valve i'm goingt o clean it out as well. I have seen carbon build up in the IAC on fords. If this dosent help I guess I will dig a little more.

If the IAC was bad, i would think that the car would stall every time it tried to idle. I don't think that a 98 Civic would have a carb, i'm pretty sure they are fuel injected. There is another thread on this topic and there are a couple posts so take a look there. Its a fairly new so it should be at the top.

went thru some winters where mine would go wildly surging. up to 2000 rpm.
but i could turn it off - and restart it, and everything would be OK. mechanic friend
told me that he thought that the problem was the ECU. SIGH.
way too expensive.
for whatever the reason, this last winter it only did it 1 time.
