Help with exhaust terminology
My poor exhaust system gave up. It was rusted real bad and a pothole finished her off and it was too big to transport home so I left it on the highway.
I looked underneath and what I have left is a 3 foot section. I see where it's bolted by the cooling fans. I want to buy a whole new system from that point on. But I keep finding Cat backs or just off the wall stuff.
I have a 95 4 door civic. Can anyone help me out on what to order? I'm not looking for a performance one, just to quiet her down.

The major parts are:
Manifold. This is made of cast iron and bolted to the engine very unlikely to fall off or need replacement.
Front pipe. Attaches to the manifold with a flange in front of the engine. Turns under the engine and goes back to approximately the firewall, where it has a flange attaching it to the..
Catalytic converter. If your converter falls off it's worth going back to get it because they're kind of expensive. Even if it is not reusable, it has scrap metal value (the catalytic effect is based on a coating of rare metals such as platinum and palladium.) The converter is a module about 1 1/2 feet long. Flanges at the inlet and outlet connect it to the front pipe and the...
Center pipe, or "B" pipe. This goes straight back under the car and turns right just in front of the gas tank and the rear wheels. The B pipe has a bulge in it which serves as a resonator to make the exhaust slightly quieter. But most of the silencing is from the muffler at the back.
Muffler / tailpipe assembly. This is everything from the end of the B pipe to the back of the car. Includes the muffler.
A cat-back kit replaces all the parts after the converter. The manifold and front pipe can be replaced with an aftermarket header assembly, making it one piece from the engine to the converter.
