Exclamation Help! Horn beeps when I reconnect negative battery cable...

OK, let me start from the beginning. My 95 Civic LX always leaks hot air into the cabin & the fan settings don't work. I disconnected the negative battery cable and:

1) Checked under-the-hood fuses & relays
2) Undid glovebox & removed blower motor, 4-pin resistor, & recirculation control motor
3) Called AutoZone for new resistor. Is $29 too much? Anyway...They were about to close so I decided to do it next weekend.
4) Tried to reconnect negative battery cable & horn honked.
5) I thought maybe a circuit wasn't completing? I don't know. So I put everything back together.
6) No luck. Horn honks whenever I try to reconnect negative cable.

Help! I need the car to get to work. I've tried to search the forums but I don't know if mine is a different situation. I don't have keyless entry/alarm & my cruise control never worked (if that's relevant).

I welcome any input. Thanks.

sounds like the horn wire is shorted to the body somewhere so connecting the battery is completing the circuit and thus the horn honks lol.

it would be a short somewhere after the switch in the steering wheel but i could not say exactly where that wire runs in your year car. best bet is to find out what color the wire is and look for it in all the places you were poking around.

electrical tape could fix it or you can crimp it or get fancy and solder it/replace it.

Check for an aftermarket alarm. I think there may be a stock alarm, you can usually reset those by closing all the doors, then lock and unlock the driver's door using the physical key. Pulling the "stop light" fuse out of the underhood box will disable the horn, (and of course also the brake lights.)

Also before replacing the resistor, drop the blower motor and check for a mouse nest in the ductwork. The resistor will burn out because of lack of airflow.

I got a ride to work today so I just now got to look at my car. I just unhooked the power at the horn.

1) Flashing hazard lights for about a minute then stops.
2) Red light left of steering wheel flashes 3X, pauses, 3X, pauses, etc. Repeats pattern.
3) Power locks now work (forgot to mention that they stopped before).
4) Engine won't crank over.

Really don't know much about car (neither did the seller). How would I know if there is a stock alarm? What now?
