Default Help please!!?

Hey guys. I have a 1998 Civic EX. I'm hearing a kind of grind sound from the rear. It's weird cause Its only like once a week when I'm in low first and only for a split second. It doesnt happen all the time either on every take off. It sounds liek its coming from the rear of the car but i'm not sure. Could it be a bad tranny from the previous owner?? I had some unaligned wheels on there for awhile with some vibration while driving but then i switched my old stock hubs back on and im hearing this sound every once and awhile. Any help?

It sounds like if you took a stick and rubbed it fast across your tire it would make a "zipp" kind of sound. Thats the best I can come up with as something close to the sound.

i can swear it isnt coming from my tranny, as it sounds/feels like its coming form the back of the car. Maybe an axle bearing going bad??? Idk. I'm lost, HELP ahhh idk wether its good to drive on since its happening like once every few days when i take off in first at like 2500. its after i take off to. No grinding when i switch gears either, everything feels smooth as butter when I'm shifting high rpms like 6500-7. I went and tested to see if it was grinding as well as going slow. Nothing. Very smooth. Its never when I have music off either. its always with music on so im like, wtf was that lol. and then its gone.

You can delete this I'm pretty sure I got this sorted out myself. i just took her out in the dead of night with no noise and sure enough, i heard knocking. i think its time for a new bearing. ill jack her up tomorrow and find out.

To localize noises, sometimes it is helpful to listen outside the car while someone else drives it past you. Or vice versa.

If a wheel bearing makes any noise at all when turning it by hand with the car jacked up, the bearing should be replaced. It will get a lot louder with the weight of the car on it.
