HELP....question about emission????
Engine Tune-Up Required.A number of problems could occur to the catalytic converter as the result of an engine that is out of tune. Any time an engine is operating outside proper specifications, unnecessary wear and damage may be caused to the the catalytic converter as well as the engine itself. The damage is often the result of an incorrect air/fuel mixture, incorrect timing, or misfiring spark plugs. Any of these conditions could lead to a catalytic converter failure or worse.
How do you know if you have incorrect air/fuel mixture.
Thanks in advance.....[sm=massbounce.gif]
hmmm the way to tell if you have incorrect air/fuel mixture is in the spark plugs... if your car is taking to much air and not enough fuel the spark plugs will go white.. if your car burns to much fuel and not enough air the spark plugs will go black... when the balance is right they will go a brown colour..
The computer primarily uses the oxygen sensor to control the fuel mixture. Continued driving with a bad oxygen sensor can damage the converter. Also the fuel rail pressure has to be within spec or the mixture will be off.
The converter is damaged by overheating because all of the conditions noted lead to incomplete combustion and excessive raw fuel leaving the engine. This fuel burns in the converter and overheats it.

I know that sometimes O2 sensors are not even picked up by the ECU. I did replace the primary about 2 yrs or so. I have a stock fuel rail and a stock fuel pressureregulator..
But my problem might be coming from my AEM high flow fuelfilter. What I know, it shouldn't be a problem because I still have the OEM fuel rail and fuel pressureregulator.
How do you know when the fuel rail pressureis out ofspec or the mixture will be off.
Any other suggestions??????
