Default HIGH TEMPERATURES

I have a ’95 Honda Civic, it has 60,000 miles. Now I have an overheating problem, because the temperature gauge shows higher than normal readings. I hooked up a water temperature gauge which shows the water temperature is up to 180 degrees and the cooling fan kicks on. When the fan kicks on, the temperature gauge stays the same at a higher than normal temperature, but the water gauge drops. I think it might be either a gauge problem, a water pump problem, temperature sensor problem, or thermostat problem. I don’t know where I should start, can somebody help me? Thanks.

Do you have lots of coolant in the system? I would start with changing the thermostat, because it never hurts to have a new thermostat, and it's fairly cheap.

I would gander to say it was the thermostat like negoti8tor said. Start there- they are only like 5 or 10 bucks. If that's not it then we can move on to something else.
