How to reduce mpg of Honda civic
I've a 1999 honda civic with over 100K miles on it. So, in the market for a new car for the past few months. However, the car has no major issues and I'm looking to trade up for a bigger space car(as my family has grown over the years).
Would like to take advantage of the 'Cash for Clunkers' bill being passed by Congress. You'll get either a $3,500 or $4,500 rebate if you qualify

I've maintained the car well over the years. The car currently gets 30 mpg(highway + street driving combined). Any ideas on how to reduce the mpg to below 18 mpg?
Thanks!

Drain all the oil, replace with water, start her up, then put a brick on the gas pedal WITHOUT putting it in gear. Eventually, you'll get 0 mpg.
I'm sure you can just sell your well maintained car for $3500.

It doesn't matter how many mpg your particular car actually gets. It's based on the original EPA test of that year/make/model/engine. So no Civic is going to ever qualify.
Also it's not "cash for clunkers"; you have to buy a new car and get a discount on it. Even with a large incentive from us taxpayers, it is still almost always money ahead for you to keep buying gas for your old clunker and keep it as long as it still runs.

dito. very stupid thread!!!!!!!!
your going to trade in your car that is good and maybe get blue book value for it....
i still say the cash for gas guzzlers crap is retarded.
your going to spend 15K bucks for a new car. and your not going to get to much more MPG from the new ride anyways!
its only good if you have a truck or just a beat up POS and want to upgrade to a new car anyways.
if you want to get the blue book value of the car which is a easy 3,500 is hell leave the car at the mall with the doors unlocked for a week and be sure to have full coverage car insurance. let someone steal it or if you know anyone shady just tell them to steal your car remove any good parts off it and torch the rest.
technically its not fraud... someone did steal it.
