Default how to remove rear seat in '97 sedan?

Hi all,
In an attempt to fix my "floating around" fuel gauge problem (97 civic sedan, 1.6l), I am trying to replace my fuel sending (metering) unit. I looked in the Haynes manual on how to go about doing this, and some steps were unclear. This is probably very basic, but I could use some guidance:

My goal is to remove the fuel metering unit. The Haynes manual says to remove the rear seat first.
  1. Do I remove the rear back rest (vertical part) of the seat, or the rear horizontal part, or both?
  2. How do I do the above? Do I need to pull the carpet anywhere? (step by step would be awesome. The Hayne's manual's pictures are not obvious).
  3. If I remove the rear seat, will the fuel metering unit access plate be obvious to get at?
  4. I would like to do this on a budget. Would anyone recommend that I get a used fuel metering unit from the wreckers, or is this a definite no-no?
Many thanks!!
Will

your fuel pump and everything is under the bottom back seat..
the is one 10mm bolt that holds it in.. stick your hands inbetween the seats where middle seat belt comes out and you will find the bolt that holds it in. then once bolt is out seats flip up and the out. there is 3 phillip screws that are on the fuel cover then remove the fuel line from tank. and then remove all the bolts that hold the gas tank cover and unplug the wire clip.... the you can pull out the completre fuel pump assembly

here is a howto with pics

The bottom cushion has hooks holding it down at the front. After pulling it up at the back like 94 said, keep tilting it forward until the hooks release.

You'll probably find enough dropped coins under there to pay for the rest of the job.
