Look up both vehicles at www.fueleconomy.gov, I think you will find there is a big difference in their mileage estimates. If I am reading it right the '94 gets 37/45, and the '96 gets 24/32. Does that sound about right?

Next time you gas up write down the cost and the number of gallons you put in. Then reset the miles on your gauge. Once you get to empty, write down the amount of miles in total you get. Then calculate it out to find your mpg.
Older cars will get worse mpg, if you get 28 mpg or higher your fine. If it's worse than you might want to clean your injectors ( At a shop, or just run fuel injector cleaner a few times through the tank like chevron techron). And use seafoam through the vac line. Maybe possibly clean the throttle body out aswell.

I don't know if this might help, or if it was even related in anyway...but try to change your oil. I changed the oil on my car a couple months ago (i'm due for another one now..) and saw an increase, about 4-5 mpg...it might help for a while.

well i know lately my milage has droped ruffly 5-6mpg BUT thats due to such the HIGH HEAT and running my AC almost nonstop
sure it sucks BUT price ya pay to stay cool... hahahha
whats the temperature in your area? if its hot like it probably is.... ive noticed the temperature around 60-70s is when i typicaly get my best milage..... road trips in the morning ALWAYS gets beter milage than return trips later in the afternoon....
now i dont have any proof.... BUT just something ive noticed personaly
