Default Idle Vibration

I have a vibration when my 01LX is at a warm idle, which causes an impact rattle that I am pretty sure is caused by the heat sheild around the exhaust manifold. The vibrationis odd because it varies in intensity, frombeing ablesee the hood shimmy a little if you really look to no vibration at all. The rattle is only present when the vibration is present so I am looking to fix the vibration so I don't have the rattle, kill two birds with one stone. I don't have many miles on it, something like 73k so I know it shouldn't be running like this and I don't treat it bad. I have changed plugs, ran fuel system cleaner, change air filter, and a few other standard maintanence. It seems to me like is just not breathing right, but I could be wrong since I am not too smart with cars by your standards.

Thanks for any help,

TO me a rattling heat shield cant cause the hood to shimmy. I think it might be your engine is misfiring. Have you gave it a complete tune up? Plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor? WHen you engine is at idle when it does shimmy didyou look at your engine? If you do see if it is shaking alot. If it is it is misfiring but if not i don't knwo what it could be.

I know the heat sheild rattle isn't cause the hood to shimmy, just saying that the vibration I am getting causes the rattle, so if I fix the vibration I should fix the rattle as well. I will check the engine this evening.

You can tighten the bolts on the heat shield first to get rid of the rattle, then fix the vibrations
