Default Idling really high

Hi everyone.

I have a 97 civic DX, with a D16Y8 engine. Body has 227k, motor has 110k. I've only had the car for around 2 weeks.

It idles at 1500 rpm, on neutral, and when in gear when I have the clutch pressed all the way. It actuallygoes between 1400-1500, and I canhear it going down and up as regular as a heartbeat. If I let go of the cluth halfway, it will go down to 1100 or so.

I'll appreciate any help.

any more specifics? fromwhat i can tell, it sounds like everythings in order, but the throttle cable is too tight (which is usually the opposite problem)

I can't really be more specific since I don't know much about cars. I am trying to learn however.

The car just idles really high, at 1500 RPM, and you can hear the engine going up and down fast enough, as the RPM goes between 1400-1600 RPM.

check if the butterfly on your throttle body is fully closed. and check the tension on the throttle cable.

Checked the throttle cable and butterfly, all fine. Tension is within norm according to the manual. Gonna check for a vaccum leak. My buddy told me to pass a small propane stream over the vaccum system and if the engine suddenly idles higher it signifies a leak.

My friends car pulsated when idling between 1400rpm and 2000rpm, he replaced the intake manifold gasket and it fixed the problem.

You could also spray the engine with carb cleaner and look for bubbles . I wouldn't use a propane stream due to possible explosion.

yeah, propane is not the best choice. next i would check for any and every vacuum line looking especially near the manifold area.

You can get the same result with a can of Berryman's carb cleaner - without as great of risk of explosion.
