I have a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid with approx 145K on it that my son drives @ school, I was told by a mechanic we have to replace 4 rear ignition coils.
Question I have is do you have to buy them from HONDA DEALER or can you purchase from EBAY OEM? Honda Dealer cost is $115/ea and ebay cost is $35/ea.
HELP PLEASE!

 

The coils typically last the life of the car. If one goes bad, replace just the bad one. Replacing all 4 at once is unusual.

Now honda dealer has replaced all 8 spark plugs and going to check for ignition coils on Thursday and let me know if engine still misfires after New Park plugs are put in......

Hi! I was told that one of my coils was going bad and they told my wife that they recommended that I change all EIGHT at $185 each...when My wife told me this, my reply was ok, I will pay for the bad one and they can pay for the other seven since they are so quick to spend my money on what is not broken. They declined my proposal and I didn't change either because they said that they couldn't pinpoint the actual bad one. So I've been driving for about a year now with the car stuttering on acceleration all this time. Tonight though, the stuttering got really bad and the check engine light flickered on until I built up some speed. So, my question, where are the coils so that I can buy one and change them out one at a time to see when the car stops stuttering..process of elimination is my goal.
