Default Ignition Coil Wire

Can someone please direct me in the direction of a tutorial on how to connect a tach? Or just show where I need to connect the wire to get a reading for it. It's a 1998 Civic LX sohc 1.6L 4 cylinder non-vtec(D16Y7 engine number if I read the list correctly) I found circut diagrams, but it's not really helping. Pics would be a preference. I got everything else hooked up for it(grounded, installed into the fuse box for the backlight and hooked up so the backlight will come on with the headlights) but I just can't find the jesus wire to get a rpm reading.

Thanks,
Zack

The blue wire from the Ignition Control Module (ICM) in the distributor provides the tachometer signal. There's also a tachometer connector plug near the brake master cylinder area where you can tap into.

At the distributor, the 2 wire plug, the tach wire is the small wire in that plug.

The signal is also wired all the way to the instrument cluster even in models not equipped with factory tach. Again it is a blue wire.

my 98 lx came with a tach. you shouldn't have to tap it somewhere in the engine. it should be in the cluster area.

Because you don't live in Canada. The OP lives in Canada.

OP: tap into the blue wire on the cluster wire harness.

Found it after. Had to go to the dealer to verify that it was the right one...then found out I was completely looking in the wrong spot. It was ontop of the drivers side wheel well, off on it's own connector sitting by itself. Waiting for a tach to connect to it.
