Default I'm steamin'...

So, I'm having this issue with my A/C system. I knew when I bought the car it had a bad compressor clutch bearing... but that didn't do anything to the performance of the A/C... it blew cold.. and all was good. Lately, the clutch bearing has gotten worse... to the point of smoking... so last night I purchased a reman'd compressor w/ clutch and installed it. I started charging the system, but the compressor wouldn't turn on... neither did the condenser fan... and It didn't really charge... it just sat for a while... my guess leaking into the air... I don't know 'cause I went through a whole can without any results. Well, I thought that it could be due to the condenser fan not running, so I checked everything there.. found a blown fuse. I changed the fuse thinking that was the issue... since the compressor now comes on along with the condenser fan. I attempted to charge the system again... and nothing. It just sits for a long time ... and finally the can is gone... but still blowing hot air. I'm getting really frustrated and I've already dumped over $400 into this to get it working... I'd take it to a shop, but I really can't afford to pay labor... anyone have any ideas? It seems like it should be fine... the condenser fan comes on... the compressor clutch kicks in... and I can hear the rushing sound of the drier... I'm so frustrated... not only that, but I use my car for work... so, I'm driving around in hot, humid weather with no relief... thankfully my mom let me borrow her car (possibly for the balance of the summer) until I get my car fixed... but I really like the A/C on my car (when it works)... hers isn't so great... but it works... HELP!

Edit: I'm not even sure if the system is charging... isn't the low-side supposed to be a little cooler? It's not cool at all, but when I check the pressure, it says I have about 45PSI... which is in the "green"... so it's holding pressure... and the compressor is moving it... 'cause when I hook up the gauge after turning the A/C off, it bumps up to 120PSI.

You can't do much (good) with the little hose and single gauge. But do see if it holds pressure overnight, if the pressure goes to zero there is a leak. The leak must be found and fixed of course before getting it evacuated and properly recharged by someone with the right equipment.

Also be sure the proper amount of the right type of oil is in your system. The instructions that came with the compressor about oil should be followed.

In the future or for someone else with the same problem, the compressor cluch bearing can be replaced seperately without changing the whole compressor or removing the refrigerant.

I know it can be replaced on it's own... but I think it was deeper than that... plus, to take off the clutch, I've heard it's a beast... and it would be easier to just replace the compressor... so, that's what I did...
