Default Issues

Hey everyone, I just recently traded an old ride for a 1998 DX 5 speed. now I should have known better to get a civic from a 19 year old kid but I want to rebuild it. Now the transmission berrings were gone so I had the transmission replaced, but now when driving it i can feel it pull ( speed up on its own) then it will just shut off the RPM guage will drop to 0 and it will have to sit for a few min until it will restart. anyone have any idea whats going on??? I dont even know what to start looking for it only has a 1.6 and its not a vtec. any help please.

On the '98 you can still read codes OBD1 style with a jumper wire, but you would get more detail with a OBDII code reader.

When it stalls and won't restart, check if the plugs are firing. Pull one of the spark plug wires and hook it to a spare plug for the test.

VTEC, not Vtec. It's an acronym.

Go to Pep Boys, they scan OBDII for free.
