Default Jumping RPM at speed.

Working on d16a1. Car starts just fine, runs pretty nice at low RPM. But when I hit about 3k rpm, the RPM gauge jumps up and down and the car runs like crap. I just set the timing again today, and everything appears correct. Any ideas of what I should be checking out?

If the tach doesn't correspond to actual engine rpm that means you're getting inconsistent pulses from the ignition. Assuming it's not a major power or ground problem, it could be the ICM or distributor sensors. Also check that the distributor shaft doesn't wobble.

Tach only corresponds to the actual RPM to about 3k.
IMC?
Distributor and all are solid.

Thanks for quick reply.
