Question A just curious question????

I had remaned front axles put in my 90 Civic about 18 months ago. I have put about 40,000 miles on the car since then. Today I went to have the front end alignment checked & new front tires & the left front axle boot is torn & the axle is in need of replacement.
Shouldn't they last longer than this??? Has anyone run into this issue before???
I was just curious & upset because the Front End shop told me NEW axles are only a few dollars more. The shop that did the first axles told me new were a lot more & ordered remans.

I would think they'd last longer than 40k miles, but if the boot's torn, it's probably the joint that went bad from a lack of grease and an abundance of dirt. FWIW, I think the whole axle assembly for my '97 was something like $60 each side.

Nothing you can really do at this time. Just replace it and keep an eye on it. Maybe the boot was torn and the grease came out, causing the shop to consider it failed?

Actually depending on where the reman'd axles were purchased they may have a lifetime warranty or at least a warranty of some sort. I would check and see where they bought them from.

yeah axles are really easy as long as you have a good jack and even then a good jack is only gonna run you abou $50 - $90. just look up a d.i.y on you tube for it, thats how i learned to do my clutch master and slave, and pretty much everything else ive done.
