knock sensor

i replaced the motor in my civic fom a d15 to a d16 my old motor didn't have a knock sensor and the new one does do i need it? my old motor just has a bolt where it would go.

i would guess since with the MINI ME you are able to just install that sensor somewhere along firewall out of the way you could do the same with this swap..

Not to pick in the gritty, but vtec does engage without a knock sensor.

Since you have a D16 in it, it is governed by the computer. If the computer needs a knock sensor, you need a knock sensor, or you'll have a CEL. If it doesn't, then you don't. As far as I know though, the 96-2000 non-vtec honda civics and 96-98 civic HX's came without a knock sensor. The 96-2000 EX, and 99-2000 HX came with a KS.

I think that knock sensors are required under OBD II

thanks the car is running but when first start it it surges until the motor is warm and then it idels fine any ideas

sounds like IACV or just a vacuum leak. what is the condition of the vacuum hoses ?

i have checked all vacuum lines and sprayed carb cleaner around and no change in idle i will check out the iacv and get back to you thanks
