Default lost keys ......

Hi chaps a friend of mine has lost his keys to his civic 97 uk model 1.6 i think i will confirm that later with him. I'm a mechanic so i would see what i can do about.

I know i'm going to need a full lock set but what's the crack with the ecu on these cars does this have to be replaced or can they be recoded by somebody.

Any information would be great.

Many thanks ben.

Nice site by the way.

I would goto the Honda dealership and get a key made. If the car has an immobolizer, i'm pretty sure you will have to either flash the PCM or replace the PCM. It would be a lot easier to get a new key made. Then you don't have to worry about picking locks and breaking ignitions.

they can make a key for that chassis number. a pcm is expensive and if the key has a chip or immobilizer it will cost around 60 dollars for the key, but if it doesn't around 6 dollars.

last i checked at a dealership here in texas the charge was 20 dollars. but that was for a GM vehicle. and it was for a regular key (without a chip).

you need to have the red key, handed over at first registration - if he hasn't gotten this, it's gonna cost him to get a new set of keys coded

Do 97 civics have coded keys? I have a 97, it seems that it just a simple key. Maybe UK car are different. I'm agreeing with others, you will have to go to the dealers prove your the owner and get the keys from them.
