Default low idle after installing aftermarket radio?

Hey all,

I've got a 2000 Honda Civic that I just installed a Sony aftermarket radio in. Now my problem is on my drive home I noticed my car idling really low. At a stop light it would idle at maybe a notch or 2 above zero and it felt like it was on the verge of stalling though it never did. And also my speedometer seems a little sluggish and slow to react. Anybody know what it might be? I had no problems with the car before. What could I have messed up? Seems kind of odd. Thanks much!

Did you have the a/c running?

If it was a simple plug-and-play installation, then I wouldn't think that the installation and idle/speedometer problem are related.

Is the CEL ON? Start by checking whether fuse 15 is blown.

I had the A/C off from the install, and living in Florida I almost always have it on. I turned on the A/C halfway home and the rpms came up a little maybe to like 500 but it still seems odd that it was close to dying at a stop.

Yeah simple install (took me forever though lol). I used the instructions from installdr.com and used a wiring harness so it's hard to believe I messed anything up but i dunno. I'll go check the fuse now. And no the engine light isnt on thankfully lol

If fuse 15 is fine:
Did you disconnect the battery when you installed the radio? If so, the ECU was reset, and the engine possibly just needs more running time so that the ECU can relearn the idle.

Does the CEL work? You'll know by turning the ignition key to position II. The CEL should turn ON for 2 seconds and then turn OFF.

Yeah I disconnected the negative. How long should I leave it running? And is just letting it idle okay or should I be driving it? Thanks so much for the suggestions. Hope this is all it is!

Drive the car normally for 15-20 minutes.

Well, it can't explain everything as the speedometer should not have been affected by disconnection of the battery. Does the CEL work?

Alright well I'll go and drive the car here for a while and see if anything changes. Maybe I just freaked when I thought my car was gonna die in the intersection with the low idle and was just imagining the speedo lol

And yeah the CEL light works. Lights up when the key is turned to accessories on
