ls head gasket
im getting ready to pull the head off of my 93 ls. i have to broken exhaust manifold blots right next to each other. i belive its causing my engine to hiccup at high rpms. i think that there is som much pressure leaving the engine, that it creates a sucking into the motor.
is that true, or just a myth? also my main question was i heard that you can raise your compression if you get a certain kind of head gasket, and also peeling of a layer, or something like that. please correct me if im wrong, i dont want to do anything stupid. thanks.

Ive heard of peeling a layer, but i wouldnt do it myself. youre thinking of the Spoon or Mugen gaskets that are thinner than stock. the problem is, they arent made for the ls motors. FWIW, if i were in your position, I would get the head milled while its off. it usually runs about 30-60 bucks, and you can raise the compression as much as you want (within reason). I would have them mill it 30 thousanths, that would put you a little under 10:1, which is about as high as you need as long as you have stock/mild cams. but the biggest drawback is that youll need to get some adjustable cam gears, since milling the head throws off the cam timing. you can run with stock gears, but youll get the true gains from the CR bump once you get the gears.
BTW, where in Sacramento are you?

ok, thanks for the info, but i also need to say that im going to boost the ls in a few months, so im gonna need the best head gasket, and the safest setup, ill probably run 8-10 lbs of boost once im done.
