Default Maintenance Minder Question

My 2007 Honda Civic EX has about 16,000 miles on it. I know the factory recommended schedule is for oil change etc at 15,000. However my maintenance minder shows oil % left at 40%. The same thing happened at 5K and 10K service (the oil level was at 40%). Should I wait till the lights come on or should I get the maintenance at the 5k, 10k, 15k intervals?

holy crap
change your oil every 7500ish (you're able to wait this long because your engine is so new), and use full synthetic, 15000 miles is wayyyyyy too long for an oil change

christ the average oil change here in Canada is at 5000 kms which is every 3107 miles for you guys. I'd kill myself if i did 7500 miles or 15,000 miles jesus.

i'm only saying every 7500 because his car has very little miles and if he switches to full synthetic now or is already using it, he'll be able to last 7500. The point is, it's not too late on his car to switch to synthetic and change oil only every 7500 miles.

However, in an EK civic with 100,000+ miles and just now switching to synthetic, it would not be wise to wait until 7500 miles to change your oil.

still he should save his basically brand new engine, whats an oil change cost... about like 5-15 bucks for a filter depending on your preference and about like 8 -20 bucks for 5 quarts of oil, you may use engine restore $3(<3 walmart)-10 with your oil, i found a noticeable difference in my 94 civic after my brother borrowed it for a year and changed the oil ONCE, but keep up with your oil changes (every3k miles) and your civic will last forever, if you dont beat it up.

3k miles is a bit excessive

dude, his car has 15k miles, there's no way it needs engine restore. engine restore is to "fix" piston rings and seals on higher mileage engines, and restore compression.

Default Correction

I guess the question did not come right..I did have oil changes done at 5K and 10K. Both these times (at my Honda dealership) my maintenance light did NOT come on and my oil remaining showed 40%. Hence I was wondering if my driving pattern could enable me to drive more than 5K between oil changes. I doubt if I will be taking my 2007 EX to Walmart for an oil change.

Sorry for the confusion.

Going more than 5K miles on conventional oil is not a good idea. With synthetic you might go until the minder tells you to change it. Your warranty will remain in force as long as you change when the minder says to, or more frequently.

Note that Honda only needs for your engine to last 36,000 miles and they also have an incentive to tell you to change the oil less often than you really should (lower published "manitenance costs").
