Massive oil leak from the engine

Default Massive oil leak from the engine

1998 Civic DX, manual transmission. Stock engine. 150,000 miles. No accident.

Just had 2nd timing belt and gasket and all the major tune up done.

A few nights ago, while driving home, suddenly the oil light goes on after I started smelling smoke. No oil in either holes in the dipstick when checked. Filled the engine with oil and the next day, I started the engine and voila. The engine runs but a HUGE gush of oil flowing from the back side of the engine. The leak present only when the engine is running. Now there is a puddle of oil on the floor.

Could someone spot what exactly is the problem and how to fix it? It doesn't seem like it's leaking anywhere from the gasket(which was changed).

First picture is for orientation. Second picture with leaking oil in the center(sorry it is blurry, I didn't want to keep the engine running so much). Third picture with engine off.

Any ideas or further information?

Your pictures don't show much, you can't see much from above. You need to get underneath the car and look at the critical area around the oil filter and above it. Here the oil passage goes straight up from the filter, to the oil pressure switch, and through the head gasket to supply the cam area with oil.

The most common reason for a sudden severe leak is the oil filter. Either it was put on too loose, or with the gasket from the old filter stuck to the engine so there are two gaskets instead of one. That is an unstable situation which will blow out. Unscrew the filter check that there is only one gasket and replace it securely (do not tighten with a wrench though).

The other major potential leak is the oil pressure switch above the oil filter.
