My brakes "click"

My brakes "click"
The sound is not coming from either of the front wheel areas, but rather under the hood near where the brake pedal is in the cabin. It is very loud when the windows are down. I can hear it over my loud music when the windows are up, and can also feel it in the pedal.
This only happens when I am braking from a low speed, like 30 MPH or under. And, it also usually happens when I am braking at a slight incline. From such slow speeds, I brake slowly. It is just after I start pressing the brake pedal in that I hear the sound of metal parts clicking into place. Again, it is very loud and embarrassing. If I brake at a stop sign in my neighborhood, someone outside in their yard can clearly hear it.
I plan on getting my braking system flushed by the end of the summer. Before I pay to have a mechanic diagnose this, have you guys had a similar experience?
Note: I started noticing this click back in March, when I had my dad change my brake pads and rotors in the front. But the noise is coming from under the hood, near where the brake pedal is.

Does it happen with the car sitting still? If it does, check that the brake master cylinder and booster are securely bolted on. You can watch under the hood and see if they move when someone presses the brake pedal. They should not move at all.

Hmm, this is usually when I am moving and brake to slow to a stop. If I recall correctly, there have been a few occurrences of it making this noise when I virtually wasn't moving (i.e. going from park to reverse or reverse to drive or something). I will have my dad look at those things tonight or tomorrow. Thanks!
