Default New Keys or Locks

My wifes 04 civic si is having some serious issues with her drivers side door and now the ignition. It is very difficult and takes a lot of wiggling and flipping over of the keys and cursing to open up the drivers side door. This same problem has spread to the ignition. The trunk and passenger side doors work just fine. I searched keys and locks and what I have come up with is a possible key issue. Any one else have any experience with this problem? The reason I suspect key is...... what are the chances of a screwed up ignition and door lock!

Thanks.

the chances of a screwed up door lock and ignition is pretty good i would say because my ignition and locks are driving me crazy as well. my driver side lock, ignition and trunk lock are all stiff and hard to turn. Best thing to do really is just changed them.

x2 on the new key, my girlfriends car does the same thing, key works on drivers side but passenger and ignition have trouble. this is because I used her key to scrape gum off something and now its slightly bent, the spare key still works fine in all locks.

400, what!!!! Just go to a mom and pop hardware store, the hardware store in my little town made me a new key for like 4 bucks, but when i tried it at Walmart, they refused to make a copy of a car key for me.

you should never go to the honda dealer for anything but buying a honda, cause any parts or work you get there will be at least 3 times what it is worth.

goodluck with your key

well if your having problems with the key being worn a copy will not help the problem! when they cut you a NEW key at the dealership they use your cars VIN NUMBER for the keycode and there machine cuts you a brand new key that is perfect for your locks!

problem with old keys is they get worn down. alot of the time if you think your locks are getting worn try a new key first!
sure your locks will wear also but changing all of the locks and ignition is ALOT MORE than one new key! its cheaper to get a new key that has the ridges as tall as posible to work best in the locks and ignition.

I think the special vin # key is the bad reason for the expense. Not so sure the mom and pops hardware store can cut a key like the one that is with her car...... Might have to shop around here in Canada and figure out if my local dealer is rippin me off.
