Default new member: 95 civic cigarette lighter problem

Hi, this is my first post here. I'm a member over at acurazine.com forums, but I decided to register here to ask a technical question regarding my '95 honda civic ex coupe. I received the car from a relative who had replaced the middle console including the cigarette lighter. The problem I'm having is that when I plug anything into the cigarette lighter, it shorts the radio fuse. I'm unable to use it and I need to fix this so I can plug stuff into it. I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem, but any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

edit: btw, the radio does work

Are you sure there isn't a penny jammed down into the bottom of the socket? Happened to me on my first muscle car. If the socket is clean, you have a bad ground probably where the socket is plugged in to the connector.
