Default new pcv valve

Hello again,

I've got another probably fairly easy question for you guys. I checked my pcv valve the other day and squeezed the hose shut with some needle nose plyers. No clicking sound, so I switched the part out. Checkd the new part and still no clicking sound. My Haynes manual says to replace if no clicking, so not sure whether this is a problem or not. The engine does idle down when I squeezed. When I took the hose off with the car running, it revved like crazy. Could not really feel any suction on the tip of my thumb from the hose, but it must have been sucking for the enging to rev like that. Should I be concerned about the new part at all? (The new valve did rattle nice and loud when I shook it lightly before installation (which I assume it should do). Thanks again,

Andrew

The pcv valve should rattle when you shake it.. Just want to make sure the valve isn't stuck from oil. If the rest of the hose isn't clogged it should be good to go.

How old is that PCV valve? If over 10 yrs, replace it no matter what. Theyre so cheap. Yes, it has to rattle when removed to indicate its good. Still, Ive seen them rattle and theyre no good.

A PCV valve is basically a controlled leak. Disconnect the end that goes to the crankcase (leave the end to the manifold hooked up) and start the engine. It should be sucking air through the valve.
