new ??s on 98 ex
hi all its time to update ,... so i got the thermostat replaced and that fixed the high rpms at 70mph then i had the problem with it almost dieing as i stop so i gleaned the iacv seem to help some so i replaced the dis/cap,rotor button, plugs, n wires helped a bit more ,...but i noticed still when i stop the rpms still go down to 500 ish and as i slow down the rpms fall but as there falling they fall a bit and bounce up 500 ish and fall like 1000 and bounce up again and again like it goes up when changing gears i dont know if it is or not but seems that way ,....................i know i might get confusing so here is what i see ,................running 70mph rpms 26-2700 and i hit the brakes as i slow down the rpms go to like 2000 and bounce to 2500 for a split sec and then fall to 1500 and bounce to 2000 and then fall to 900 and bounce to 12-1300 and then it drops to like 500 at complete stop and idles up to 7-800 ,.....does that sound normal ??? or should i replace the iacv?? or something else ..........................thanks in advance
That sounds normal. Engine speed will vary all over the place on an automatic due to the action of the torque converter and changing of gears.
As long as the engine doesn't race ( > 1000 rpm when warmed up) or stall out at stops, I wouldn't worry about the exact idle speed.
